Companionship Care
Companion care is a form of home care offering non-medical services to older adults or people with disabilities. Companionship care should not be confused with personal care. Personal care aides (also known as home health aides) may provide the same services as companionship care along with more hands-on tasks such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and assistance with medication reminders. Companionship caregivers mainly focus on emotional connection, support and socialization, although companions may help older adults with a variety of tasks including:
- Household activities like washing clothes and dishes
- Running errands like grocery shopping
- Light housekeeping
- Transportation to appointments and other activities
- Planning and scheduling appointments and social activities
- Preparing meals
- Socialization and entertainment
- Communicating with family members and other care team professionals
